McCusker switch stuns Wee Rovers

Albion Rovers manager Paul Martin has been left stunned by Marc McCusker's return to Clyde, who have also signed Ross County defender Graham Girvan."I am really disappointed at losing the best young striker in the lower leagues in Scotland," said Martin.

"We made him a good offer, but he has decided to move on."

The 20-year-old had joined Rovers after an unsuccessful season with Clyde and Martin says his club had helped rebuild the player's fitness and confidence.

"As a club, we put in tremendous effort in getting Marc fit again," the Rovers manager told the Scottish Football League website.

"Even when he was not our player, (physiotherapist) John McMenemy was giving Marc one-to-one attention above and beyond what was required.

"I feel a bit let down that, after helping rebuild Marc's career both physically and mentally after a disappointing time at Clyde when he was there before, he will not be around to show us the value of that investment.

"I have been left a bit numb that Marc has gone elsewhere, but he is a good lad and a cracking player."

McCusker will face his former club next season after Clyde were relegated from Division Two, while Rovers narrowly missed out on the promotion play-offs.

He had joined the Bully Wee on a two-year contract after leaving Hearts in 2008.

However, he was released after a season when Clyde were forced to cancel player contracts to avoid going into administration.

McCusker had made just one appearance for the then First Division side but scored eight goals in 18 starts for the Wee Rovers, whose supporters chose him as their player of the year.

Clyde head coach Stuart Millar told his club website: "He's a gem of a lad and potentially a terrific striker.

"I know he has been at the club before, but I think we should discard that.

"As soon as I was appointed, Marc became one of my top targets. I saw him on numerous occasions last season and I think he's the right type for us.

"With the greatest of respect, Marc was offered more money elsewhere, but he made it clear that his preference was Clyde."

Millar returned to former club County to sign Graham, who captained the First Division side's Under-19 side after progressing through their youth academy and made eight first-team appearances.

"He has taken a drop in finances, but he is keen to come to a club that will look after him and give him the opportunity to develop his career," the Clyde boss said of the 19-year-old.

"He's a footballing right-back who uses the ball very well and we've high hopes that he can adapt to SFL football."

Meanwhile, winger Adam Strachan, who arrived from Dumbarton in January, has signed a new one-year contract to remain with the Cumbernauld club.
