Apart from a ten minute spell at the start of the second half, Shire never looked like scoring. Although Rovers only won by a single goal, it needed some goalkeeping heroics from Robert Tiropoulos between the Shire posts to keep his side in the game until the 78th minute.

Shire began playing some attractive football which unfortunately lacked punch infront of goal and Rovers always looked the likelier side.

A slip by Andy Smith early on allowed Martin McBride a free shot at goal but he put his finish straight at the keeper. Jamie Doyle hit the post from a pass from Bryan Felvus and Joe Savage had a shot blocked by Smith.

Shire came close once when a Brand cross found Ward at the near post but a brilliant block from Ciaran Donnelly saved the day.

The second half gradually turned the visitors way and Tiropoulos kept his side in the match by turning a Gordon Lennon header over the bar.

It was at the beginning of a spell of Rovers pressure which eventually produced the goal. Lennon was again involved in the build up when he intercepted a poor clearance outside the Shire box before giving Scott Chaplain the clearest of openings to thump the ball high into the net as Tiropoulos came out to close him down.
