The first real chance of the match fell to Elgin after 12 minutes. Some great skill and battling by Martin Harty on the left saw him slip the ball to Adam Nelson, who from 20 yards saw his dipping effort just fail to trouble Chris Fahey.

Minutes later Albion went close through a Scott Friel 25-yard free-kick.

Elgin almost broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after a huge slice of luck saw the ball break to Harty after deflecting off referee Stephen Finnie. Harty steadied himself , but saw his chipped effort float over the bar.

The game burst into life in the 35th minute when William Martin drove into space and slipped in fellow strike partner Stephen Donnachie who, one-on-one, was brought down by Friel, who received a straight red card. Elgin failed to conjure up anything from the resulting free-kick.

Elgin were first to threaten in the second half when Hugh Dickson, up from the back, found himself in yards of space in front of goal but blasted over.

In a moment of madness Elgin joined Albion on 10 men. Alan Dempsie, who had just started to get back into the side after injury, lashed out and received a straight red to the dismay of the Elgin faithful. Elgin did not let that affect them, and in a melee in the Rovers box Fahey was in top form, denying Elgin on two occasions.

Albion took the lead with their first shot on target after 66 minutes. Big Jim Mercer caused all sorts of problems in the Elgin box as the ball somehow found its way to John Bradford, who smashed the ball into the far right-hand corner.

Elgin finally managed to make the most of their chances and levelled instantly through substitute Andy Roddie. A super move across the midfield saw Nelson release Roddie, who composed himself and placed the ball into the far corner .

Elgin began to force Albion back with the pressure really building, but at the end of the day it wasa case of not taking their chances.
